Audition Requirements & Process

The Dance Magnet will host an audition for the 2026-27 school year on Monday, January 5, 2026, 12:00pm - 4:00pm.

Dancers and their parents must first sign up online with the High School Magnet Programs from October 2025 - December 19, 2025 on the OCPS School Choice website.

Audition Format

Dancers will be adjudicated by a professional panel of dance professionals in Ballet, Pointe (only if currently studying), Modern, Improvisation and a one minute solo in any style. There will be five different audition slots. An email will be sent once info is received from the County.

The County will send letters of acceptance or denial by March 1st

Audition Components and Criteria

It is strongly recommended that each student should understand and is capable of executing the following:

  1. Ballet Components and Criteria

  2. Combinations will include the following:

    • Adagio: includes extensions moving in and through body positions, Port de Bras and Épaulement
    • Multiple tours and balances on Relevé
    • Petite Allegro including Batterie
    • Grand Allegro
    • Pointe if already study: Rolling up and down, 2 feet, 1 foot; Échappé, Pirouettes center
  3. Modern Components and Criteria

  4. The combination will include the following:

    • Spine work: Contractions, spinal succession, tilts
    • Floor work: Rolling to, from and on the floor
    • Tilts, spirals, recovery, fall and rebound
    • Combination with big directional changes, turns, jumps, and floor work
  5. Improvisaton
    • There will be a brief Improvisation segment at the end of each Audition class
  6. Solo
    • Dancers will share a One Minute Solo in any style of their choice. (no costume/props)

What to Expect for the Auditions

Audition Attire

Students should be dressed in appropriate audition attire:

  • Black leo/pink or skin tone tights/pink ballet shoes, hair in a bun, no bangs;
  • White tight Tshirt; black tights/ballet shoes.
  • *No warm-ups, sweats or skirts are permitted, convertible tights are recommended.
Warm-up Class

A general warm-up class will be provided to dancers before entering the audition room.
